Stories from The City

I apologize for the abundance of city pictures of late, but it truly is my place of choice for photography, so bear with me with these images from a trip a few weeks ago to my beloved New York City.  Mixed in are a few images from a day spent in Philadelphia, as well. 

You know the old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words”?  Well I would use well over a thousand words to tell you all my favourite things about the Big Apple, so I concur with the author of that statement that pictures will have to present a glimpse of what I love so much about it, because words just aren’t enough (and would take too long xD). 

Though it was not the first time I had been back since my stay there in the summer, I had the wonderful opportunity of taking the oh-so-familiar Downtown 1 train at Broadway and 116th – a daily ride for the team of interns I was working with.  I miss the subway so much (Hamilton should get on that), and often reminisce over the wonderful conversations I had with many strangers over the span of my time there. 

I also got to revisit the BEST café I have ever been to in my life: Max Café (see photo above :), and upon entering that amazingly beautiful eccentric place, memories came flooding back of the evenings spent there with my roommate Lyss and dear friend Mallory; of our long talks and quiet journaling while sipping tea and listening to beautiful tunes.  I loved having such a place within walking distance (’twas only a few blocks away), and definitely plan on frequenting Max whenever I return to the City.

The grey building pictured (in one photo there is a red banner) is where I stayed while I was in NYC, and I throughly enjoyed seeing my old room, walking around the neighbourhood (despite the pouring rain), and experiencing the general atmosphere of the Upper West Side once again.  I am terribly excited for my fellow intern Jessica, who is returning this year for a second summer in the City, as I know it’ll be awesome for her to be able to go back as well :)  We headed from Morningside Heights to Greenwich Village to visit the Strand (a fantastic used-book store) and walked around the Village for a while – another favourite, so I was totally in my element!!

Ah, what a fantastic weekend, spent with beautiful friends.  More pictures of them are to follow! :)
